August Meeting Highlights

August 23, 2010
Before the meeting, members were invited to visit Pat Clement’s home to inspect her climbing rose that is infected with Rose Rosette. The rose will be dug and destroyed. Members could then stop by the home of Mary Lewark to see her exceptional grass and beautiful flowers.

The meeting was held at the First Christian Church, with 22 members and a guest, Margaret Bishop, present. A delicious assortment of cookies and cake was provided by Helen Martin and Judi Campbell. Bobbie Askew served her pink champagne cake.

An educational program was given by Casey Koch, Head Golf Course Superintendent at Crestwood Country Club. Casey discussed care and maintenance for lawn grasses in our area, as well as various types of ornamental grasses.

President Kristie Watson Bell followed with a short business meeting.

August Club Meeting - Aug. 27

CLUB MEETING: Aug. 27 @ 7:00 p.m.
The Garden Club will meet on Aug. 27 at 7:00 PM at First Christian Church. Program will be given by Casey Koch, the head greens keeper at Crestwood Country Club. He will talk about lawn grasses in our area, how they take care of the clubs grass, ornamental grasses and will answer questions from the members.

At 6:30, if you want to see what Rose Rosette looks like, Pat Clement has an infected rose you can examine. This infection was confirmed by
a member of the KS Dept of Ag.
