August Club Meeting: August 22

GARDEN CLUB MEETING: August 22 @ 6 p.m

We will be touring the garden of Dick and Faith Coleman at 1305 Woodland Terrace and the garden of Michael and Kathleen Bishop at 401 West Jefferson. Both gardens are in Pittsburg and members may begin their tours at 6pm. These two gardens are slated to be on our 2012 Garden Tours.

We will be meeting at the First Christian Church at 7pm for the meeting.We have a very special person presenting our program for the evening. Derek deBoer, owner of deBoer Landscape Company will be speaking to us. He has a bachelors degree in Horticulture with an emphasis in landscape design from Kansas State University. He has won multiple awards in a national landscaping competition. Derek will be presenting a program on designing and planning a landscape.

Meeting Highlights: July 25

Members gathered at the First Christian Church to celebrate the club’s 13th birthday. Twenty-six members enjoyed a covered dish supper. Karen Bowen and Pat Clement were hostesses. President Kristie Watson Bell called the meeting to order. Kristie made a nice comment on the color photos in the newsletter.

A report on the 2012 garden tour was given by Kathy Fox and Janice Evans. As of this date the following six gardens have been confirmed for the tour: Fred and Judy Spigarelli, 298 W. Leighton; Darlene Brown 307 W. 6th; Michael and Kathleen Bishop, 401 W. Jefferson; Eva Smith, 190th Street (Chicopee); Dick and Faith Coleman, 1305 Woodland Terrace; Ananda and Yaso Jayawardhana, 1020 E. 7th.

The club welcomed Ronald and Barbara Mangile as new members
